Back On The Open Road

by Pamela on May 5, 2012

After several months of inactivity I’m happy to update that I’ve ventured across to Spain and am now teaching in a fantastic, relaxed town in the South. It’s good to get back in the classroom and put all my ideas into action. Watch this space for more inspiration and useful advice.

All About Me

by Pamela on January 12, 2012

Real life facts can be a really good warm up lesson especially with a new class of teens or adults; as you’ve probably found out before with new classes students can be quite shy, reserved and a little reluctant. I found this activity on the British Council Teaching English website.

The great thing about lesson plans and worksheets from the Teaching English website is they are accompanied by lots of guidance; full instructions for teachers, a copy of the worksheet itself, timing for the activity/lesson and level of suitability. Just sometimes you need a little help and inspiration.

This activity, All About Me, is a great way to introduce yourself to a new class and have them listen closely to you and suggest their own answers. Anything that will get your students talking is great.

I really enjoyed the teaching side of things and did shed a tear when I left but it would be somewhat modest to say I found living in China challenging, frustrating, difficult yet completely rewarding. We were living in Huizhou which is a small (four [...]

CELTA vs TESOL

January 3, 2012

It’d be fair to say there is quite a bit of confusion of the difference of CELTA and TESOL (these both being the English as a Foreign Language teaching qualification needed to teach abroad and in the U.K.). Way back when all this EFL stuff was still relatively new and pressumably only done by gap [...]
